Today I had a very long but totally awesome newborn session so not a lot of time to post my Gratitude Friday post. I still have a few hours before midnight, though, so here it is!
This week I’m grateful for rain and dew that used to appear in the mornings on the flowers and plants when there was rain and we weren’t under a drought-induced water restriction! This photo was taken at a maternity session for the baby I spent the day photographing today. You know…back a few months ago when it still rained in Texas! We have seen some HOT days and record-setting levels of dryness. Since I’ve moved to the Woodlands from Michigan I have never heard of actual wildfires in this area. In fact, last week when I saw a very stern and serious sign posted at the local park that said “Extreme Fire Risk” I actually laughed out loud. Turns out? Not so funny! In addition to fires in other parts of Texas, there have been recent fires just a few cities over.and the count was at 63 reported fires in our county alone just over Monday and Tuesday of this week. Thankfully the fires in the Woodlands have been limited in number and size but have included a small fire at our favorite local park. But if the Woodlands really catches fire I fear the devastation that it would cause. So many houses interspersed with so many trees – beautiful tall old trees that have survived many hurricanes. The losses would be unbearable and immeasurable. So we are under a Drought Warning which means no firepits, no grilling this holiday weekend.
Rain. It ruins our sessions and causes us to reschedule. It ruins our family plans. But the lack of rain is so much worse. We forget to be grateful for it.
